I-79 Bridgeport to Meadowbrook Road

E.L. Robinson Engineering Co. staff was hired by the West Virginia Department of Transportation, Division of Highways to prepare engineering design, construction plans and specifications for the design of approximately 2-miles of interstate widening on I-79 in Harrison County, West Virginia. This widening project included the addition of two lanes in each direction, installation of a median barrier to separate traffic, as well as the rehabilitation/widening of two twin-bridge structures, one being over the B&O Railroad and two local roads at Lodgeville, the other being over Simpson Creek and another local road. This was the first section of 8-lane highway to be designed in the state of West Virginia.

The bridge at Lodgeville consisted of composite steel beams (36") with semi-integral abutments and two column bents (35.4' high) supported on steel piles. The bridge is 140' wide and 305' long. There are five spans, with the longest being 73' in length.

The bridge over Simpson Creek consists of composite steel beams (36") on semi-integral abutments and two-column bents (36' high) on spread footing. The bridge is 136' wide and 230' (c/c bearings). There are three spans, with the longest being 87' in length.
