E.L. Robinson Engineering designed the complete substructure for this project as a subconsultant to HNTB Ohio, Inc. This project consisted of the replacement of the 700 ft. long Perry Street Bridge over the Maumee River in Napoleon, Ohio. The seven-span structure was thoroughly studied for rehabilitation opportunities. The structural details and construction techniques for this structure have won numerous national awards for innovative design features.
E.L. Robinson's involvement with the project included the design and detailing of the unique substructure units for the bridge, public involvement meetings, and plan review tasks. The unique substructures were constructed while allowing most of the existing footings located below normal water to remain in place. Since the substructures were very massive, $300,000 for removal costs was eliminated from the project.
