The Twin Branch Motorsports Infrastructure Development Project entails the design and construction of infrastructure to facilitate an economic development project being implemented by the Mingo County Commission.
The 55 acre site is located approximately 15 miles north of Williamson, WV and was at one time the location of a Massey Energy surface coal mine operation. Massey Energy worked together with the Mingo County Commission to establish the rough grade of the facility as part of a post mining land use plan. The current contours of the proposed race track include 25 degree banking on the turns and 18 degree banking on the straight-aways.
The project would involve the design and construction of a water distribution system, a wastewater collection and treatment system, as well as the extensions of telephone, gas and electric lines to serve the facility. The proposed facility will seat approximately 20,000 spectators and include camping areas and parking for over 6,000 vehicles. Construction is expected to begin in 2006.
